Growing up, there is always pressure to keep succeeding in order to move on to the next best thing. After passing one hurdle, we keep our head down and focus on the next one. Rarely, do we ever look back and pause. It is in these moments where we have the opportunity to share our insight and experience to those who are still fighting to overcome that last hurdle.
As a graduate of Sonoma State, and a resident of Sonoma County, I have pride in our community. Every year, Sonoma State’s School of Business and Economics will put on a mixer between alumni and current students. Here is the prime time to take a break in the race and give insight to those who will carry the torch after us. Here is where we get to mingle with current students who were just like us at one point, trying to find a way to better succeed.
Students are still getting their feet wet and exploring. They need guidance and direction. There are always going to be people out there who have been where you are today. It doesn’t hurt to look back and give a little nudge. Job Fairs and college mixers are the most opportune time to get involved and share your own past experiences. What makes it even more special is that these students are working to better themselves and we have the resources to assist them.
