Elevator Pitch: Tips on How to Land a Job – as developed by Nancy Collamer (Continued)
Refresher: What is an elevator pitch? It’s the most succinct version of you, your skills, and why you’re perfect for the job you’re trying to get. Imagine having to state all of that information in the time it takes to ride on an elevator.
Now let’s go through Nancy Collamer’s nine steps to getting “the perfect pitch”.
Step 8. Prepare a few variations.
Not all elevator rides are the same amount of time, so you need to have a few variations of your pitch to suit the particular opportunity you’re presented. Collamer explains it this way: “Focus on a few key talking points then work up ways to customize your speech for particular situations.”
She also notes that most people can say about 150 words in one minute, which means you can use the word count feature on your computer to help you determine pitch timing.
Next up: Nail it with confidence.
