How to Make LinkedIn Work for You (Part 5 of 6)

(Editor’s note:  This is the fifth installment of a six part series written by Anthony Pizziol, BOLT Staffing’s American Canyon Branch Manager.  As the title suggests, Anthony explains what LinkedIn (LI) is and does, and what you should know in order to create a great profile.)
Fourth  Key Item: Joining Groups Strategically
There are three types of groups you want to join of the possible fifty you’re allowed to join. A small percentage should be your competitor’s groups, your industry and your prospects’ industries. The second type are geo-located groups like local chambers of commerce. The third and biggest should be persona-type groups for CIOs, CTOs, Entrepreneurs etc. You should be starting discussions in these groups by sharing content and asking people’s opinions about the article or content.
I recommend joining your alma-mater group first and start there. Find lost college classmates and re-connect.
