Bistro Attire? What is it?

Our event clients frequently request servers to come in “bistro attire.” As with terms like “formal”, bistro attire is a general and vague description of the desired dress. There are variations that servers need to be aware of and prepare their wardrobes so they come ready for each assignment.  It’s a good idea before accepting assignments to be sure you know precisely what form the bistro attire for the assignment will take.

Black and White

The photo at left is an example of white and black bistro attire. Note the shirt or blouse has a button front and long sleeves. Ties are always black, black slacks, black belt, black socks, and black leather shoes.

The photo on the right shows the black on black variation. As above, shirts or blouses must be button front and black tie. All dress below the waist is the same as the Black and White variation, above.

Another common request is for a white polo in place of the shirt and tie. The polo shirt must be white (no off whites) and be without text, logos or any other graphic. Again all other dress is the same.

And finally, Aprons!

We also recommend you include a black apron in your wardrobe. They must be professional serving style aprons, again basic black without decoration, logos or any other text or graphic.
