A case before the US Supreme Court threatens to move the line between what employers must pay employees for and what is incidental and non-compensable. Curiously, it involves employees of a staffing agency who worked in an Amazon warehouse that was suffering theft problems. Amazon instituted a screening policy after the end of shifts and therefore did not pay for the time it took to complete the screening. Sure enough, it wound up in court. This article outlines the case. The Court’s decision, due next year, could have huge implications.
