3 Employment Law Trends for HR Managers

This post and one we’ll have up on Friday, June 6, speak to the realities facing employers. While both stories originate outside of California, both contain lessons that are as important as they are applicable to California employers.
The first article is from Phoenix, but it outlines national trends in legal impacts on employers. This article details the facts that (1) litigation is on the rise, (2) Workers want time off, and (3) the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) are both aggressively pursuing their charters.
On Friday, we’ll post a case study of what can happen to a major American corporation when the HR process goes off the rails. The story features the classic pitfalls of a dysfunctional workplace from office romances, management retaliation, and the enormous cost of poor management.
It’s certainly not news that employers live in the lawyer’s cross hairs, but these articles point up how important it is for all employers to pay strict attention to both the magnitude and direction of the legal environment we all inhabit.
