Elevator Pitch: Tips on How to Land a Job – as developed by Nancy Collamer (Continued)
Refresher: What is an elevator pitch? It’s the most succinct version of you, your skills, and why you’re perfect for the job you’re trying to get. Imagine having to state all of that information in the time it takes to ride on an elevator.
Now let’s go through Nancy Collamer’s nine steps to getting “the perfect pitch”.
Step 3. Format it. Collamer recommends structuring your pitch to answer these three questions:
- Who are you?
- What do you do?
- What are you looking for?
Here’s one of her examples: “Hi. I am Jessica Hill. I am an accountant with 10 years experience in the insurance industry and I’m looking for opportunities in the Dallas area with both insurance and finance companies.” This is a simple straight forward formula that works, so give it a try.
Next up: Tailor the pitch to them, not you.
