Refresher: What is an elevator pitch?  It’s the most succinct version of you, your skills, and why you’re perfect for the job you’re trying to get.  Imagine having to state all of that information in the time it takes to ride on an elevator.

Now let’s go through Nancy Collamer’s nine steps to getting “the perfect pitch”.

Step 1. Clarify your target.  What is your goal in terms of the field or area of expertise you want to work?  As Nancy explains:  “Until you can clearly explain the type of position you want, nobody can help you find it or hire you to do it.”  Do not be discouraged if this takes some time because the clearer your target is in your mind, the easier it will be to explain what you want in a powerful, compelling way.

Next up: Put it on paper.
