One Simple Trick to Make You More Valuable Than Your Workplace Competitors

Our digital age has exponentially increased the number of distractions in our lives. While promising to make us more productive, computers, email, cell phones, texting and social media can also take the precious 24 hours we have each day and turn them into an empty wasteland.
Naturally the people who pay us to produce for them are sensitive to our wasted time. This article recites the results of a workplace survey asking employers to rank the biggest productivity killers in their workplaces.
By taking one simple measure you can stand out from nearly all of your competitors. What is it? Leave your cell phone in your car. You can still check it during breaks, but by leaving it out of sight and out of mind during work hours you will quickly stand out from your digitally addicted co-workers. By removing the temptation to divert your attention to your cell phone you will do away with the most frequently cited workplace time waster.
If your work involves computers you still have to contend with the potential distractions of the internet and social media along with good old fashioned hazards like gossip and chatty co-workers. However, the discipline you gain from keeping away from your cell phone will also help you control yourself when it comes to other temptations.
One way to get some perspective is to imagine if you were your employer. Could you give yourself any good reason to bring your cell phone into the workplace?
If you can’t give yourself one valid reason, leave it in the car. It’s never been easier to be a standout employee!
